Who are you calling bottlenose!

While walking close to the Swan River, you can see how close in the last shot, a bit further up along Mounts Bay Road from yesterdays post.. a splash and a flash caught our eye and there they were, so close they were almost touchable. There is a pod of at least 20 probably more bottlenose dolphins that live in the Swan River and I think almost all of them flashed by, it was a spectacular sight to see, not so easy to snap. The dolphin below seemed to slow down to look up at me before moving on.This stretch of the river close to the city and the Narrows Bridge is one of the best spots to see the dolphins and one of these days I'm going to find the time and patience to come down and sit with long lens and tripod at the ready :) dolphins leaping is a shot I would very much like to take! Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

  9. Love bottlenose dolphins and we're fortunate to have a lot of them in Florida waters. You did a good job photographing them 'cuz as you say, it ain't easy; they usually don't stop to pose.

  12. What a wonderful sight to see Grace. We have sightings of dolphins here, I don't know what kind, and I have never seen them. When I do see them, they're on our local website, much too late for me. Bring some food, your lens, some patience and wait until you catch the jumping dolphin. That would be totally awesome!

  13. They are wonderful to watch. Quite playful. Then at the other end of the spectrum are the Manatee; big, docile, and not too much for fast moving. Not sure if you have those in Oz or not. We used to watch both in Florida.

  15. I saw my first dolphins last spring and it was a great thrill. I'd haunt the river if I knew they were there though I know catching them can be a big challenge...and requires a lot of patience.

  16. A bottle nosed dolphin, separated from its pod, spent some time close to Portland and Weymouth in Dorset (close to where I used to live). People thought it was great fun to swim with it and would tag along by holding its dorsal fin, so much so that the fin was damaged.
