The conversation..

Most cities and towns have one.. a central spot with trees, benches and alfresco eating areas where you can catch up with friends and generally just hang out with a coffee and people watch. Sitting in Forrest Place on Saturday there were many conversations going on.. you could see the respect and interest on the young man's face as the gentleman, one of my favourite people to spot around town, talked. One of these days when I see him I am going to be brave enough to talk to him myself, I feel that he would have many stories to tell. Happy Monday, take care and stay safe... P.s. black and white or colour?

  1. I can't decide Grace because they are both wonderful shots! That young man obviously appreciates what that gentleman is telling him.

  3. Hope you see the gentleman again and talk to him. Perhaps make a portrait of him? The B&W photo shows more character in both of them.

  8. We can learn a lot from listening to those old guys. In the small mining town where I grew up this area was the town square. I loved going along with my grandfather and listening to the stories. Most places I lived had a gathering spot. If we took the time to stop, listen, converse, and learn. I vote for B & W.

  10. Wonderful shots Grace. I like them both, but if I only could pick one it would be the b&w one. Looking forward to that great portrait when you take it. It will be fine and I bet the gentleman will be happy and accommodating to you.

  11. Black and white is so classic that it is hard to beat, but I often love colour, too, as I do with these two photos. Grace, please do speak to "the gentleman"-- he will be charmed by you and you and he will have an interesting conversation to relate to us. I LOVE talking to strangers because it seems that everyone has an interesting story to tell.

  12. In this case, colour. The black and white does not convey the tweedy farmer look, or perhaps that is university lecturer appearance.

  14. Hmmmmm....I like them both, but b/w seems to draw more attention to the emotion of the photograph.

  16. I like how engaged the young man looks. You caught a good moment in each shot. I love each of these photos for their own reasons. If I were posting on my own blog I think I'd go with the color shot just because it feels a little more lively with color. Do talk to the man if you're feeling ready...

  21. That´s really a nice scene, Grace! Yes, do brave up and tell his stories here. Cannot decide if color or not - very difficult with this motive...

  23. Color, definitely. B&W loses much of the richness of the image.
